Poem #23: "The Trail"

Published on 28 September 2025 at 09:56

Inspired by walking in a small-ish public park with beautiful, towering trees. As I approached the path's end, I found myself longing not to go back into the rush of cars and pavement.

A first draft and experiment with form.

Douglas firs

  Splay shade

    Chirps ornament

      Green shoulders

        My feet

        Going slow

       Pass theirs

       Earthy and

      Going slower

    Embracing snugly

  Chocolate ground

No one

Draws breath

But me

In and Out and in and out

But forest

  Just witness

     Lung shaped

      Stem flowers

        Caress pink

         Rose cheeks

         Flora love

        Along her

      Ribbon edge

    Path I

  Delve lightly

Don't want

This trail

To head
